MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by President Jean Hutchinson. Also present were Ann Almgren, Allen Gillette, Rick Adams, John Gaffney, Joyce Palmer, employee Holly Haupt and Librarian Harriet Roll. John moved to approve the minutes of the February 19, 2009 meeting, and Joyce made the second, motion carried.

Current Bills: A motion was made by Rick and a second by Ann to approve payment of the March 2009 bills as presented. The motion carried.

Financial Reports: Harriet distributed copies of the current reports for city library account, fines account, Diggins money market and Head Librarian accounts.

Citizen Comments: None.

Committee Reports: The three recent programs were well attended and the 1909 food program had a nice write up in the Northwest Herald. Next 1909 program will be the re-dedication of the library on May 7, 2009.

Librarian’s Report: Library employee, Gary Phillips, seems to have solved the internet bandwidth problem using a discarded server from North Suburban Library.

Unfinished Business: The library centennial brochure is in phase 2, and Jean feels the committees have a good handle on the big event in August. The Diggins Board as agreed to a $5,000 budget for the centennial expenses.

After discussion about the library participating in the Project Quercus (tree planting) and the amount of time needed to care for the plantings, John made a motion that this be considered for an adopt-a-tree program and try to get volunteer caretakers for the oaklets. Allen seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Joyce, John, and Allen volunteered to help man the library’s booth at the Harvard Expo on March 28th.

New Business: The Board felt Harriet should do a flat budget for the next fiscal year. She agreed to a redo and will have it at the next meeting.

Harriet has contracted with former library employee, Bonnie Bethke, to do weekly story hours and other special children’s programming. Intern, Cassie Murphy, will also assist in children’s programming through the summer as a volunteer. Library patron, Dawn Wagner, has offered to bring her therapy dog in so children can read to the dog. Dawn has certified and insured her dog.

Adjournment: Rick made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 p.m., seconded by Joyce, and the motion was carried.

The next scheduled meeting is April 16, 2009.
