How to Apply for a Library Card

Resident Library Cards: The Harvard Diggins Library is a municipal library. As such, the Library is supported by property taxes collected on residences within the City of Harvard boundaries. If you live within the City of Harvard boundaries and are 6 years of age or older, you may get a library card by presenting photo identification and proof of current address (driver’s license, state I.D., personal checks, current utility bill, bank statement, apartment lease, etc.). Children ages 6 – 15 must apply for the library card with their parent/guardian present. The parent/guardian will be requested to present photo identification and proof of address. Library cards expire one year after date of issue.

Non-resident Library Cards: If you do not live within the City of Harvard boundaries, you may purchase a non-resident library card. The non-resident library card fee is per household and is based on the average amount taxpayers within the City of Harvard limits pay to support the Library. The cost for a non-resident library card is $130 per year which enables individuals in the household age 6 and older to get a library card. The $130 fee may be paid in two 6-month installments of $65 each to help spread the cost throughout the year. Photo identification and proof of current address (driver’s license, state I.D., personal checks, current utility bill, bank statement, apartment lease, etc.) are required. Children ages 6 – 15 must apply for the library card with their parent/guardian present. The parent/guardian will be requested to present photo identification and proof of address. Non-resident library cards expire either six months or one year after date of issue.

Non-resident Taxpayer Cards: If you own property within the City of Harvard limits but do not reside within the City of Harvard limits, you may get one library card. Photo identification and the tax bill of the property within the City of Harvard limits are required to obtain the library card. Non-resident taxpayer cards expire one year after date of issue.

Harvard Diggins Library cards may be used at any library within Illinois. Verification of library card status may be required by the lending library.
