Lon Haldeman Returns to Harvard
February 15 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
FreeJoin us with Harvard native Lon Haldeman, who will present a program at the Library about his long and unique bicycling career. Lon has raced and toured across the United States over 100 times in the past 44 years. His fastest time of 7 days, 14 hours, at almost 400 miles per day, still stands as the cross country record across America.
Lon will be showing his history with an assortment of slides from some of his past records. He will explain the series of events that made many of these records possible. The support of the Harvard Community during his 1981 Double Transcontinental Record from New York to Los Angeles and back in 24 days is the theme of Lon’s new book which he will have for sale after the program.
Lon’s second cycling career moved from the United States to leading many bicycle tours in Peru and Africa. These tours eventually expanded into many projects such as building schools, bringing supplies to orphanages in the Amazon jungle and helping many young people start their own businesses.
